Darlington midfielder Ricky Ravenhill is playing down the fact that Quakers are top of the league. Darlington hit the submit of the division thanks to a terrific run of form however the midfielder is keen to keep people's feet on the ground at this early stage of the campaign.
Ravenhill has played a significant part in Darlington being top of the table having scored crucial goals against Rotherham United and Grimsby Town. Both of those goals proved decisive in the final outcome of those matches. With Darlington returning to league action this weekend he is keen to remind everyone of how much football is left to be played.
"We’re on a great run at the minute and we’re top. We’ve had a little break with two cup games and we’re top of the league after a fantastic run,” he said in the Northern Echo. “But we don’t want to make a massive deal about being top because it’s only November, there’s a long way to go."
"Last season we were there to be shot at all season, but this year it feels as though we’re not being talked about as much and that suits us. The confidence is high but we don’t want to get too carried away, we don’t want to be the team that everyone is looking to shoot down."
Darlington take on Lincoln City in their next league outing and Quakers will be hoping to continue their superb unbeaten spell. Whilst he wants to keep the focus away from Darlington Ravenhill does suggest that this squad may be better than last season’s.
"We had a bit of a hangover from the end of last season, when we lost in the play-offs and didn’t start this year too well," said Ravenhill. "I think some people wrote us off but I think we’ve got a great squad which is just as good if not better than last year’s. I think we can go and achieve something this year. We’re ticking along nicely, we’ve got a great team spirit and we’ve got a settled side which helps. Hopefully we can keep getting on with what we’re paid to do and keep collecting points."
