The Northern Echo is the town's main daily paper and covers the club in the sports section throughout the week. The Echo also runs its Saturday sports supplement which covers the usual previews and pre-match build up.
Over the last few years the Echo has geared itself towards becoming the North’s daily paper. Whilst there are variations in the different parts of the region some local residents feel it has lost sight of some local issues. It is a good quality paper for the most part although Darlington Supporters often comment on the slightly negative slant towards the team. Maters are not helped by the Sports Editor being a Hartlepool United fan. The Echo is backed up by its website at www.thenorthernecho.co.uk
Elsewhere on the newspaper front you have the Evening Gazette. This by tradition has always been a Middlesbrough paper and really, it still is with their offices based on Teesside. Middlesbrough FC features heavily throughout the week however Darlington supporter Andrew Wilkinson covers the Quakers for them and does well with the limited space he has often gets the most interesting lines.
The Gazette also publishes its Pink on a Saturday evening which has the Darlington match report in it. Every season there is some doubt if the Pink will continue but it appears it still has some mileage in it yet. Like the Echo most of the stuff is reproduced on their website at www.gazettelive.co.uk at some point during the day.
BBC Radio Tees covers Darlington on 95.0 FM, 95.8 FM and DAB Digital Radio. Ray Simpson commentates on pretty much every Darlington League and Cup match throughout the season however it is Middlesbrough who generally get the most coverage on the station. Darlington fans however share the DAB Digital Radio service with Hartlepool on a matchday so better coverage it there for those who are suitably equipped.
Commercial radio coverage of Darlington has always been something of a sore point and seems to change on an almost season by season basis. Alpha Radio (103.2 FM) have probably made the most effort though and during the 2007/08 featured a Sunday evening programme dedicated to the club which allowed fans to call in and air their views. They have recently announced that former Premiership referee Jeff Winter will be hosting a football show at the station during the 2008/09 season.
